Sujuy Ha — "virgin water" in Yucatec Maya — is the name given to cenotes whose underground rivers have stayed untouched for millennia. The title turns that purity into a warning: nightmare, not paradise, for water this fragile.
The Yucatán Peninsula's cenotes are connected by one of the largest underground river systems on Earth — water so clear it reads as empty space in the right light, and so interconnected that contamination anywhere in the network can travel everywhere in it. A film carrying that information in its title is making an argument before a single frame plays.
Scoring that argument meant treating the cenote itself as a character — something ancient, clear, and quietly under threat — and building music that could hold both the awe the footage earns and the dread the title insists on, without letting either cancel the other out.
Composed the original score for the film, working with Con Con and Antica Films to score the dual register of reverence and warning the project's title sets up.
